2019 Sigma Psi Alpha at-Large Nursing Research Symposium

The Western Australian Psi Alpha at-Large Chapter was formed in August 2016 and is the 527th Chapter of Sigma. A key aim of the chapter is to grow nurse-led research and showcase what is happening here in Western Australia. The Chapter Board in 2017 agreed to form a Research Symposium Working Committee (Symposium Committee) to explore the potential for a WA symposium. It was not the intent of the chapter to provide an additional conference in WA, but instead offer a unique event that would cater for nurse led research by academics, students and clinicians.

The WANMCT was the Principal Partner at the inaugural Sigma Psi Alpha at-Large Nursing Research Symposium (the Symposium) held at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research on Friday, 10th May 2019. The theme of the symposium was: Connect, Collaborate, Catalyze. This Call to Action was presented by Dr Beth Tigges, President of Sigma, at her opening address as Sigma President in November 2018. Each Presidential term has a unique Call to Action, which forms the mission of Sigma and its chapters for the president’s term. It was agreed by the Chapter Board and Symposium Committee that this Call to Action would be the appropriate theme for the event.
